Fluid Maintenance Services
The services that are most often neglected by drivers are also some of the most critical for your vehicle. The expensive and sophisticated engines in today’s vehicles can be completely destroyed by improper fluid care. Fluid maintenance services such as oil changes, transmission fluid changes and differential fluid changes are a Richmond Motor Sales and Service specialty.
Oil Changes: Standard, Synthetic, and Diesel
Expert technicians agree that the oil change is the single most important maintenance service your vehicle can receive. Dirty oil will abrade engine parts and eventually turn to sludge. Without proper lubrication, engine components create so much friction they weld together and the engine seizes.
How often should I change my vehicle’s oil?
Oil change recommendations vary based on driving conditions, year, make and model of vehicle and in some instances type of oil used. Motor oil is your vehicle’s life blood and changing it according to the manufacturer’s schedule and your type of driving conditions is critical for long engine component life. In addition, oil changes are necessary to maintain your vehicle’s new or extended warranty. The most common recommendations are:
- 3,000 miles/3 months
- 5,000 miles/5 months
- 10,000 miles/12 months
- As indicated by oil change alert system
Our service professionals have access to your vehicle’s manufacturer information and can help you determine the best interval to meet all requirements.
What does our oil change include?
- Up to 5 quarts of major brand oil
- New oil filter
- Lubrication of the various fittings on your vehicle’s undercarriage when applicable
- Courtesy Vehicle maintenance inspection
Where synthetic oil is required, Richmond Motor Sales and Service carries the necessary oils for your vehicle. Synthetic Motor Oil is manufactured for better wear and flow characteristics as well as superior protection where regular scheduled service intervals are exceeded.
Diesel engines require special application oils. We carry the necessary oils for your diesel engine’s needs.
The differential transmits power from the vehicles’ driveshaft to the front or rear axles and must be properly lubricated.
Performing a differential fluid service will increase rear differential component life and maintain proper lubrication.
Our certified technician will visually inspect differential fluid level and look for signs of leakage. They will perform differential fluid service, adjust differential fluid to proper level, and then test drive.
Power Steering Fluid Flush
The power steering fluid provides hydraulic power to the steering system. Power steering fluid becomes contaminated with rubber and metal particles.
Performing a power steering fluid flush will provide longer power steering component life and a smoother, quieter, more dependable steering operation.
Our certified technician will inspect and record power steering fluid levels and look for visible leaks. They will evacuate and refill the power steering reservoir, perform flushing process, and adjust fluid to the proper levels.
Transmission fluid transmits power, lubricates, prevents corrosion and removes heat.
Performing a transmission service will remove trans pan, replace filter (where applicable)and transmission fluid. This provides a longer transmission life and smoother operation.
Our certified technician will test drive the vehicle, check transmission fluid level, inspect the transmission fluid pan for leaks. After recording the required transmission fluid type and quantity, they’ll complete the transmission service process and adjust transmission fluid to the proper level.
